What is Reiki? – Whole Life Center
What is Reiki? The word is a noun, pronounced ray-key. The term Reiki is of Japanese origin – Rei, meaning spiritual consciousness, and Ki, which means life force energy. China refers to it as Chi, and in India it is prana. Hawaiians call it Ti or Ki. It has also been called odic force, orgone, bioplasma and life force – ultimately, it is the same life force energy.
What is Reiki? In its simplest definition, it is a natural, spiritually guided, life force energy used by alternative health practitioners and therapists to channel healing energy into a person by touch. It is not traditional massage; however, it can be added to massage. It is a non-invasive, non-physical, healing technique. It can be applied through intention to restore Ki. Reiki compliments all other healing methods. Reiki promotes healing of every known illness, and reduces stress.
What is Reiki? Reiki is a subtle channeling of Ki, through touch, to restore balance in a person when their energy becomes weak, or is blocked. The energy does not come from the practitioner’s personal ability or experience, nor is it affiliated with a particular religious belief or practice. The energy comes through the practitioner from God/Source.
What is Reiki? On a spiritual level, it could be defined as the channeling of a higher power. It is a subtle life force that permeates everything, both animate and inanimate. On a more human level, Reiki is an infinite, all-knowing, source of spiritual guidance. Ki comes to us from the air we breath, from food and sunshine, and from restful sleep. It is the force of nature that created the universe. Some cultures call it God.
What is Reiki? When someone’s Ki, or energy, is low, they feel weakened and can become ill. On the other hand, when their Ki is high, they feel well, energized, strong and confident. When we die, our Ki leaves the our physical body. Ki responds to our thoughts and feelings. Our Ki can be weakened when our negative thoughts and feelings cause the restriction in the flow of Ki. Practitioners of Western medicine believe the human mind can create illness, stating that as much as 98% of illness is caused directly or indirectly by the mind. Some practitioners use this in their whole-health approach to healing – mind, body and spirit.
