What are Reiki Symbols?
Reiki symbols are sacred symbols referred to by their intention. Originating from the Japanese language, the term Reiki means “spiritual life force energy”, and the term comes from combining the words “rei”, which means spiritual, or higher, power, and “ki,” meaning energy. If you would like to learn more about Reiki symbols and how they can be used to heal yourself or others, consider enrolling in a Reiki class from The Whole Life Center of Kansas City.
Usui Reiki was developed long ago in Japan by Mikao Usui, a Japanese spiritual teacher using Reiki symbols as a form of healing. Reiki symbols are the keys to connecting to higher levels of healing by a Reiki practitioner. Students of Reiki learn how and why the Reiki symbols are used and how they work. They know to give Reiki healing energy from God, enabling them to embody spirituality. They come to a deeper understanding of the Divine, experiencing the power for themselves. These students learn the symbols before or during Reiki classes and are asked to memorize them. Each one represents a particular kind of energy. The stimulus/response process is activated when the Reiki symbols are used, and the names are spoken.
In a Reiki II class, a student receives three Reiki symbols: the Power symbol, the Mental/Emotional symbol, and the Distant symbol. A Reiki practitioner activates them during a ceremony/meditation called an Attunement or Placement. Once we receive empowerment from the Second-Degree Reiki symbols, we are more connected to the source of Divine Guidance, intelligence, and power. Usui/Holy Fire Reiki uses the Power, Mental/Emotional, Distant, Usui Master, and Holy Fire symbols. All but the Holy Fire symbol may be referred to by the Japanese name, or kotodama, which means “the secret power of words.” The Japanese names of Reiki symbols are secret to indicate respect for the symbol.

Reiki symbols help the Reiki practitioner focus on the healing energies that come from God.
